Senior Raw Material Manager

The Role & Key Responsibilities

AB Connect offers nutrition and feed manufacture expertise through a range of businesses to help farmers, producers and businesses all along UK food and farming supply chain. Based in Peterborough (UK), AB Connect is part of AB Agri, an animal nutrition and agricultural services business, part of Associated British Foods plc. 

We are looking for a Senior Raw Material Manager to join the team on a permanent basis. This role is crucial in driving forward strategy and implementing procurement performance improvement plans. 
 

The role plays a key part in the development of the procurement function, both as a member of the procurement leadership team, and through the line management of members of the procurement team. It directly contributes to the profitability of AB Connect through effective raw material management, managing risk, driving value and building relationships with key strategic suppliers. It is also involved in progressing strategic customer relationships, manging raw material books on their behalf and providing expert market insight to customers. 

Key responsibilities:
  • Support the development and delivery of the procurement strategy,
  • Drive contribution to the procurement performance improvement plan 
  • Champion collaboration across AB Agri procurement
  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for key raw materials 
  • Develop supplier relationship management programmes
  • Ensure the delivery of agreed raw material strategies
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic customers 
  • Maintain excellent levels of commodity market knowledge and expertise
  • Coach and mentor the team

Having the following behaviours and experiences will assist with your application. 

  • Established leadership experience with a demonstrated track record in coaching and developing teams.
  •  Experience of operating in a management role in a fast paced commodity led commercial environment
  • In-depth understanding of grain commodity markets
  • An understanding of the key commercial issues in the value chain of UK agriculture
  • Experience of driving ethical sourcing transparency of supply chains aligned to business goals
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with good commercial awareness and the ability to interpret market data & emerging trends
  • Knowledge / qualifications in technical market analysis
