Category Manager - Wholesale Liquids & Waste

The Role & Key Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for a Category Manager to join our team in Peterborough.

As a Category Manager of Wholesale & Liquids Waste you will be responsible for managing the top suppliers within this category and effectively managing supply, pricing and volume of products to achieve maximum value.

You will ensure a smooth transition of products from new Business Development into the category. This includes all product manager and owning the actions delivered from supporting functions, e.g. marketing, technical etc.

You will work with other category managers to implement best practice and governance to drive performances across all product areas and also work in line with ABF trading controls to ensure compliancy across the category.

The role will contribute to the delivery of the five-year Feed Ingredients strategy and will actively contribute to the delivery of the channel budget.  You will be responsible for the achievement of an annual category gross margin as set by the business and also influence the sales gross margin of Liquid, Moist feed, and waste products

 Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct campaign and product reviews to ensure lessons learned are implemented to improve future performance
  • Ensure strategic market data is gathered and utilised to drive performance across the category
  • Work with the sales teams across Feed Ingredients to drive increased value across the products throughout your given category
  • Drive compliance in feed safety, quality and H&S within Feed Ingredients
  • Drive technical capability in the sales team for customer utilisation
  • Deputise for the Head of categories in their absence
  • Create and sustain a culture within the Liquid, Moist Feed and Waste teams which seeks to work collaboratively across AB Connect with commercial and functional colleagues.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the team in order to maximise performance, develop skills and promote succession.
  • Advocate and embed the AB Connect culture.

Skills & Experience
  • Excellent product management expertise with knowledge of implementing across the full product lifecycle.
  • Practical understanding of business accounting / forecasting.
  • Understanding of the value of product propositions and potential routes to market, with experience of negotiating agreements.
  • Commercial experience with expertise in product propositions and managing key supplier relationships.
  • Understanding of business planning and driving improvements in performance.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to foster effective relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to sell concepts in a compelling way.
  • Commitment to drive performance and risk management to optimise business delivery.
  • Good commercial and financial acumen with the ability to prioritise business focus.
  • Ability to manage a team to deliver business goals.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to advocate and embed the AB Connect culture.
