Job title: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, UK
Contract & hours: Permanent, the shift pattern is 2 weeks of days (8 am to 4 pm), 1 week of early (6 am to 2 pm), and 1 week of late (1 pm to 9 pm).
During the late shift week, the engineer is also on call overnight and for the weekend.
Package includes Salary £48,748.47 a year, plus around £3,965 annual on-call payment (13 weekends per year at £305 per weekend), plus pension contributions matched up to 10% and access to flexible benefits that support your development, wellbeing, and everyday life.

Join AB Agri as a Maintenance Engineer and play an important role in keeping our manufacturing sites operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Working as part of a small engineering team, you will be responsible for both planned and reactive maintenance, supporting plant availability while ensuring feed safety, quality and health and safety standards are never compromised.
Role overview:
This role supports the overall maintenance of the site, covering both electrical and mechanical systems. You will conduct planned preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, conduct fault finding and support plant optimisation. The role contributes directly to maximising plant reliability and efficiency while maintaining high standards of safety, feed safety, and product quality.
Key accountabilities:
- Ensure the site always remains electrically and mechanically safe.
- Conduct maintenance work in line with risk assessments, safe isolation procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance in line with agreed schedules using the Agility CMMS system.
- Collaborate with operators to plan equipment availability for maintenance activities.
- Respond to breakdowns and reactive maintenance requirements in a timely manner.
- Participate in the site on-call rota to support out of hours breakdown response.
- Support spare parts management by reporting parts used and assisting with ordering through the P2P system.
- Monitor plant condition as part of routine inspections and report any issues identified.
- Maintain good standards of workshop and work area housekeeping.
- Issue permits and supervise contractors as required
About you:
Essential:
- Multi-skilled engineer with City & Guilds Level 3, HNC or equivalent experience in mechanical and electrical engineering
- Experience working with planned maintenance systems.
- High level of health and safety awareness
- Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Logical and structured approach to fault finding and problem solving.
- Experience maintaining automated process control systems
Desired qualifications:
- Experience within FMCG or food manufacturing.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement or lean techniques
- 18th Edition wiring regulations
- C&G 2391 inspection and testing
- IOSH or similar safety qualification
- IPAF, PASMA or forklift licence
- Confined space training
- Steam boiler qualification such as BOAS
- Understanding of DSEAR and maintenance of ATEX equipment
- Welding, fabrication and machining skills
