Job Title: Test Strategy & Delivery Manager
Location: Hybrid role, with a mix of home working plus travel to Central London and Peterborough on regular basis – potentially up to 2 / 3 days a week.
Do you have experience defining and embedding test strategies across large-scale business change and technology initiatives? Can you skilfully shape testing frameworks, engage third-party partners, and ensure robust quality assurance across a complex, federated business environment?
Are you skilled in managing test teams, both internal and external while working closely with business leaders, project managers, and technical teams to ensure effective testing practices?
We’re looking for a Test Strategy & Delivery Manager to join us during an exciting period of transformation. As part of our growing Project Management as a Service (PMaaS) function, you’ll shape how testing is planned, executed, and governed across strategically significant technology and business change programmes within the ABF Group.
You will develop and own testing methodologies, oversee test delivery across a diverse portfolio of projects, and work closely with business units and third-party testing partners to ensure technology solutions are fit for purpose. You'll be critical in ensuring high-quality solutions are effectively launched while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in testing practices across our businesses.
What you'll be doing:
- Develop and own the test strategy, framework, and governance for assigned business change and technology projects, ensuring consistent and effective testing practices.
- Ensure rigorous testing is conducted before go-live, identifying gaps, addressing risks, and confirming that solutions meet business and quality expectations.
- Define and implement best practices for test planning, implementation, and reporting across multiple delivery methodologies, including waterfall, agile, and hybrid approaches.
- Oversee and coordinate all testing activities, including test case creation and defect management, across internal teams and third-party providers.
- Manage relationships with external testing partners, setting clear expectations, defining engagement models, and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Work closely with project managers, business analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to align testing with overall project goals.
- Develop and evolve reusable testing artefacts, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and standardisation across ABF business units.
- Monitor and mitigate risks related to testing and quality assurance, working actively to resolve issues and escalate concerns where necessary.
- Coach and support business leads and project teams on effective testing practices, increasing awareness and capability across ABF.
- Contribute to the evolution of PMaaS, sharing knowledge of testing, implementing continuous improvement, and shaping a robust testing capability within the organisation.
What you'll bring:
- Experience in developing and embedding test strategies, frameworks, and governance across complex business change and technology initiatives.
- Comprehensive understanding of multiple testing methodologies, including functional, non-functional, automation, and performance testing, and how they apply to different project types (waterfall, agile, hybrid).
- Experience managing testing resources, including internal teams and third-party partners, ensuring high-quality testing and effective collaboration.
- Ability to assess and mitigate risks related to testing, ensuring project teams carefully identify and address potential quality issues.
- Highly skilled stakeholder management, with the ability to communicate technical testing concepts clearly to senior business leaders, project teams, and third parties.
- Practical experience with test management tools (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, Azure DevOps) and the ability to ensure their effective use across projects.
- A strategically-minded approach, able to balance short-term project needs with the long-term goal of building a scalable, standardised testing framework.
- Experience working in federated environments, IT service management providers, or consultancy settings, demonstrating versatility across different business units.
- An effective coaching and mentoring approach, with the ability to upskill business teams and project stakeholders on effective testing practices.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, able to shape testing strategies with minimal input while working in an evolving environment.
