Job title: Data Protect Principal Analyst

Our BTS Data Protect team is looking for a technically skilled Principal Analyst to take a leading role in managing and evolving our core data protection services. In this pivotal position, you'll act as the final point of technical escalation, guide your team through complex challenges, and help shape the future of our infrastructure—ensuring our systems are secure, resilient, and ready to support the demands of a global business.
What you'll be doing:
- Acting as the technical lead and subject matter expert for all Data Protect infrastructure components, providing final point of escalation for complex technical issues.
- Overseeing the resolution of high-impact incidents and problems, ensuring robust, efficient, and secure systems across our backup, recovery, and storage platforms.
- Facilitating continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for optimisation and innovation within infrastructure and service management practices.
- Supporting the delivery and technical support of data protection products and services in line with agreed SLAs and OLAs.
- Leading and contributing to medium-to-large scale technical projects, working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Coaching, mentoring, and supporting team members—sharing and deputising for the Data Protect Manager when required.
- Maintaining up-to-date technical documentation and ensuring adherence to IT standards, procedures, and security requirements.
- Collaborating with external vendors and partners, ensuring effective lifecycle management, cost control, capacity planning, and compliance across infrastructure services.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive technical experience across infrastructure technologies, including storage (e.g. Pure), SAN (Brocade & SanNav), and backup/recovery tools (Commvault, AvePoint).
- Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise-level IT environments, with solid knowledge of Microsoft Server technologies, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Certificate Services.
- Familiarity with virtualisation platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, as well as cloud environments like Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
- Scripting ability using PowerShell and SQL, with a keen eye for automation, efficiency, and process improvement.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Load-Balancers), PKI, and license management.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to act as a technical lead, supporting and mentoring team members while influencing stakeholders.
- Experience in incident and problem management, including coordination with third-party service providers.
- A flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to travel to other locations when needed.
Location
Hybrid, a mix of office and homeworking. This role will be based at our Peterborough offices on the Lynchwood Business Park.
